William Gallas Out Of Arsenal's Trip To Stoke City

Arsenal’s injury situation continues to threaten the club’s Premier League title aspirations, as Arsene Wenger has confirmed that former captain William Gallas remains a doubt for the Gunners’ trip to Stoke City’s intimidating Britannia Stadium home.

Gallas is one of six Arsenal absentees as the defender, who has formed a strong partnership with Ajax recruit Thomas Vermaelen, suffered a setback during training on Tuesday, jeopardising his involvement on Saturday afternoon.

The Frenchman is currently nursing a problematic back injury.

“With Gallas we don’t know,” Wenger explained to Mirror Football. “Gallas has had a recurrence of his calf injury.

“He tried hard on Monday and Tuesday but on Tuesday he had a little problem again. We will have to assess that.”

Gallas, along with Andrey Arshavin (hamstring), Abou Diaby (knee ligament), are all nursing shot-term complaints, however, Kieran Gibbs (metatarsal) and Johan Djourou (knee) are out for the majority of the season. Robin van Persie (ankle), however, could be fit to play Arsenal’s final six games of the season, according to reports published earlier in the week.

The injury to Gallas, though, could see Sol Campbell make another appearance since his surprise January return to the club.
