Robin Van Persie Attracts Manchester United Interest

Red Devils have been linked with a £20 million move for Arsenal attacking midfielder Robin van Persie. According to the Sun, United coach Sir Alex Ferguson is a big fan of the 26-year-old Holland international and has been riding herd on his situation at the Emirates, where he is yet to intrust to a new contract.

Arsenal have reportedly deferred an improved deal of £80,000 a week, but Van Persie has still stalled, claiming he is more interested with winning silverware than hiking his bank balance. Recently, Van Persie said: “In the last four years I’ve won only one prize, the FA Cup, and that is deficient. I want more.

“Financially the offer is fine but that is not everything to me. It’s about my dream and how that can be accomplished.”

Van Persie was signed by Arsene Wenger 5 years ago but, due to a run of unfortunate injuries, the Netherlander has made just 79 league starts in that period.

This, however, hasn’t stopped the striker from being regarded as one of the most technically talented players in the Premier League, nor has it forbade Ferguson from casting coveting eyes.

Reports suggest United are not the only club going on tabs on Van Persie, with Inter Milan coach Jose Mourinho interested in making a bid. A Dutch source is quoted in the Sun as saying: “Robin loves it at Arsenal but he’s getting to the long time when he wants to win things.

“He knows that there are clubs concerned in him and is waiting to see what happens.”
