It was Arsene Wenger who likened the spirit within a squad of footballers to the fragile English weather. He admitted the clouds could arrive quickly but, for now, it would seem that there is only wall-to-wall sunshine in the Arsenal dressing-room.

Wenger has refused to attribute this to the departures of Emmanuel Adebayor and Kolo Toure but Manuel Alumina yesterday did suggest that the players were now a more cohesive unit. “All the players have a better relationship with each other and, if the dressing room works, then, on the pitch, the team works as well,” he said.
