Tracking the Arsenal FC news

I gave Gael Clichy 5.5 rates for his performance against Aston Villa last Saturday. He is very unfortunate to nod the ball into the back of his own net. As usual, very involved in attack, persistently pumping in crosses and long balls into the Villa penalty box. He is the best defender for Arsenal now and it’s shown in the match against Manchester United.

Now, you can read the short interview with Clichy after Saturday’s disappointing defeat against Aston Villa at Emirates Stadium.

REPORTER: Can you just put into words, how disappointed you are today?

CLICHY: Yes its very hurt even more when you think about the game’s we are against Manchester United. It could have been a good free points, I mean today. We just realize that the wins against MU were confirming nothing. This is a disappointment, I think we didn’t play good enough and i think Aston Villa played well. We have to give them credits and look at our self and do the right actions.

REPORTER: Can you put your finger on what went wrong because you didn’t quite cant go?

CLICHY: No , the first half was really slow. Its like there’s no game and desire from us. The boss had told us on the half time and asked that we have to comeback in the second half and show that we want to win the game as much as Aston Villa. Unfortunately , we didn’t get to it maybe because of the first goal that the ball should have been out. But then you can’t stop behind this situations and see the refree doesn’t blow the whistle and you must go on to play. Its a very big disappointment today.

REPORTER: Just about the first Aston Villa goal, you put the ball into your own net but you aren’t under a lot of pressured. What have you make to againts that such things?

CLICHY: Yeah I think we can’t stop the thing before back into the floor once again. And when the ball is crossed into the box and I try to do my job to head the ball away but sometimes when you are under pressure you can’t really control on whats happening and its a very big shame for me and for the team. But I think the game was more better than the first goal on our overall performance.

REPORTER: About the 2nd goal ,any suggestion about the foul on Carlos Vela?

CLICHY: Yes , maybe the refree got it wrong on the location but you can’t wait under the refree decision, You must to show that you want to win the game. We try to play our great football but we didn’t do it. Of course you can find some excuses or problem but that is the main thing.the main thing is we didn’t play good enough today.

REPORTER: It’s consistent is a big problem to Arsenal?

CLICHY: Yes I think so. In the football today , thats the keyword to work as a team and be consistent. Like I say early on, you know the great performance againts Manchester United. If we will play like that every weekend its gonna be fine. And today we did the type of play the opposite from the match against Man Utd. It can’t work like this.

REPORTER: Thinks looks going bad right now but there’s time.

CLICHY: Of course we still have time. We still have a long way to go. We have to cut our shape. But if we play like what we did today , in a few months the seasons will be finished for us. If we play as a team and play that will be great like what we did on Man Utd because it was a good performance.

REPORTER: You are following the international duty this week. With which team will you play?

CLICHY: We are playing Wednesday night against Uruguay in Paris. Probably my further carbs will be good. If I play good in the club probably I will be selected in the Internatioanal team. Thats the key to the work and if I’m playing for France I will be up there.

REPORTER: Is this the possibility Arsenal Bacary Sagna play for France?

CLICHY: Yes but to be honest back forward is a little bit down now. You know when a a plyer like him, his quality and mentally are very strong. When he is off the pitch that means he is very injured now and so I hope he will have a good rest and get fit as quick as possible because we need him.

REPORTER: The team is down now but there’s a belief that Arsenal can come back.

CLICHY: Yeah, of course . We have to be positive and the game againts Man U was a perfect example for the team. On how we play, the teamwork, the desire, the focus and if we play with this desire and commitment. We will get the player to make differences. We have so much quality with the squad but must have the right desire and the right attitude and today wasn’t the case. I think we must take the match against Man U as an example to perform better like that.
