Champions League: Arsenal v Celtic preview

Arsenal hold a 2-0 lead over Celtic as they look to secure a place in the group phase of the UEFA Champions League. The Gunners produced an impressive performance at Parkhead last week and were rewarded with some good fortune as a William Gallas deflection and Gary Caldwell’s own goal put them in command of the play-off tie.

Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas is ruled out of the match because of a hamstring problem. However, it is expected that the 22-year-old will be in contention for Saturday’s Premier League tie against Manchester United. Tomas Rosicky has returned to training but is unlikely to feature in Wednesday night’s Champions League second-leg clash against Celtic. Forward Theo Walcott (back), goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski (knee), winger Samir Nasri (broken leg) and defender Johan Djourou (knee) are all still out.

Probable Starting XI

Almunia;

Sagna, Vermaelen, Gallas, Clichy;

Denilson, Song; Diaby;

Bendtner, Eduardo, Arshavin

  1. My advise to wenger is that he should not over protect his players this season and that he should always use his best legs for every match even when he is playing a lowly rated side, whether Carling, FA, EPL or UEAFA . And that he should go into every match with a determination to win. In fact it is better to lose to a highly rated club that a lowly rated one. I love the gunners.

  2. I think mr.wenger shouldnt make too many changes for fear of destabilising the winning team. Bring a good distributer of the ball in place of the recovering fabregas. Thats all ! Go for the kill boys !

  3. why cant mr wenger be playing manone rather than playing for us fabiansky who always makes mistakes which cant be reversed. monone started for the seasonwell only to be destroyed by the so called number one and the second choice goalkeepers…..
